Kenet Tech Pte. Ltd. ("we") runs Acquainted. This policy says what personal information we collect, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and how you control it.

We don't collect your contacts, photos or precise location, and we don't track you across other apps.
2. Sensitive information
Some of what you tell us is sensitive personal information (special categories of personal data in some places):
- Who to meet, set in each of your plans: the genders you'd meet one-on-one (women, men, non-binary people) and whether you'd join small groups. It can reveal sexual orientation. Needed before a meeting can be arranged; a new plan starts as one-on-one with anyone and small groups too, and you can change it at any time.
- Relationship style (exclusive or open). Only asked where dating is open; not in mainland China or Taiwan.
- Intimacy: whether you'd like to say more about it, the pace of physical closeness that suits you, whether sharing a less common preference (a kink) matters to you and, if it does, roughly which kinds (broad categories only, never in detail), which side you're usually on, how much experience you have, and anything that's a firm no. These say something about your sex life. They're only asked if you're looking for something short-term, one answer skips them all, and they're only asked in London, Paris and New York.
- Religion: whether you have a religion or faith, which, how religious you are and, if you're open to dating, whether their faith matters to you. Only asked if you choose to say more about your values; not asked in mainland China.
- Politics: where you sit politically and, if you're open to dating, whether their politics matter to you. Only asked if you choose to say more about your values, and only in London, Paris and New York.
- Gender and sexuality (not asked in mainland China): your gender in more detail, your sexuality, and whether you'd like to meet more LGBTQ+ people. Your gender and sexuality are shown to the people you're matched with only if you choose. Whether you'd like to meet more LGBTQ+ people is never shown to anyone, our staff included; but if you pick "Only LGBTQ+ people" you're only matched with others who picked it too, so the people you meet know that.
How we ask for your consent
- The UK and France (London, Paris), mainland China (Shanghai) and Taiwan (Taipei): the law there asks for your separate consent before we use this information. You give it for who to meet with its own box when you sign in, and for each other group (relationship style and intimacy; gender and sexuality; religion and politics) with its own box under the choices the first time you fill one in. Without it nothing is saved.
- Singapore, Hong Kong and the United States (New York): this information is handled under this policy, with no separate box. Apart from who to meet (needed to arrange meetings) all of it is optional; filling it in is agreeing to us using it as this policy says.
How we use it
Only for matching: who to meet and relationship style (for dates) decide who you can be matched with; the intimacy answers only count towards how well you fit with someone who is also looking for something short-term, and a firm no rules out something short-term with someone for whom that kind matters; "Only LGBTQ+ people" matches you only with others who chose it; religion and politics are only used for matching (for dates) when you or they said it matters. Apart from intimacy and whether you'd like to meet more LGBTQ+ people, these are used only for matching unless you choose to show them to the people you're matched with; those two are never shown to anyone, including the people you meet and our staff.
Withdrawing and deleting
Where your separate consent is asked, you can withdraw it in Settings at any time. Withdrawing one group deletes only that group. Withdrawing who to meet also clears it from every plan and takes you out of invitations not yet decided; nothing more is arranged until you consent and choose again. Elsewhere you can change or clear any of it in the app at any time. If you move to a city that doesn't ask some of these (mainland China doesn't ask about religion, for example), your answers to those are deleted; if you move to a city that asks for separate consent, you're asked the next time you change them.
3. Who sees what
- The people you're matched with (one person, or at a group meeting up to six others) see your first name, age and languages, and only what you chose to show them in "About me" and "Get to know you". Each item in "Get to know you" can be set to "Your matches" (people you're matched with can see it) or "Matching only" (never shown to other members). While Acquainted is small, an invitation shows only your first name, age, languages and line of work (if you chose to show it); the rest you chose to show appears once either of you has verified the other's code word at the meeting. Preferences about the other person (age range, their relationship status) and relationship style are for matching only by default, and intimacy can never be shown. Before the decision time they never see what you chose, your plans (times, who to meet, areas, spend), or whether a wish of yours was loosened to arrange the meeting (only you are told that).
- At the decision time everyone's answer is final and the result goes to all of you at once. If it's on, those who said yes see who else is coming, and only they get the exact place, the table and their own code word. Nobody is told who said no or didn't answer, or why.
- At the meeting, once you've checked in, you can tell the others you've arrived and where (a spot, and a few words such as what you're wearing); they get a notice with your name. Checking in without telling them tells nobody. After checking in you can enter the other person's code word, to check it's them; they see that you've verified theirs, and you see whether they've verified yours. All of this only during that meeting and only to the people at it; the words about where you are are deleted a day after it. Our staff see who checked in and whether code words were verified, to know the meeting happened.
- How you rated the experience, what could be improved and your feedback note are seen only by our staff, never by the people you met. Every time someone on our staff opens a meeting's feedback, it's logged.
- Our staff see who was arranged to meet whom, who said yes or no, check-ins, code-word checks, ratings and feedback, to run the service and keep the weekly promise; they read feedback you send about the app and free weeks you ask for.
- While Acquainted is small, our staff look over matches before they're sent to you, and sometimes arrange a meeting by hand. For that they can see your plans (times, who to meet, areas, spend, meetings a week), what you said in "Get to know you" (never intimacy, whether you'd like to meet more LGBTQ+ people, or a sensitive item you kept "Matching only") and your "About me". Every time someone on our staff opens your details, it's logged. Anything else you wrote they read only when someone reports it.
- Other members see nothing of yours.
4. Service providers
We share only what's needed with the providers listed in Personal information and providers: SMS (codes), push notifications, sign-in (Apple, Google, WeChat), payments (Apple, Google, WeChat Pay, Alipay, by region and device) and hosting. We never sell personal information.
5. Where it's stored
Information about people in mainland China is stored in mainland China. Other people's information is stored on servers we choose for their region. Where information has to go abroad, we ask separately and follow the legal steps first.
6. How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Sign-in codes | 1 day |
| Ended sign-in sessions | 30 days after they end |
| SMS and push delivery records | 90 days |
| Read notifications | 180 days |
| Where you said you were at a meet | 1 day after the meet |
| Feedback about the app, and free weeks you ask for | Until you delete your account |
| Your profile, what you said in "Get to know you", your plans and "About me" | Until you delete your account (sensitive answers: until you withdraw consent or clear them, if that's sooner) |
| Payment records | As long as tax and accounting law requires |
When you delete your account we delete your profile, what you said in "Get to know you", your plans, "About me", feedback notes, feedback about the app and free weeks you asked for, take your name out of the notifications of people you were arranged to meet, take you out of meets ahead (a pair's is called off; a group's goes on without you if enough people are left), stop a subscription renewing, sign you out everywhere, and ask Apple to revoke Sign in with Apple (if you used it). A bare account record stays, with no name or contact details (an id, when you joined, the city and app language you last chose), so that meets you were part of still add up for the other person.
7. Your rights
- See and download your data: Settings → Download my data.
- Correct it: edit your profile and your answers in the app.
- Delete your account: Settings → Delete account, or request it on the web.
- Withdraw consent for sensitive answers: Settings, where your separate consent is asked; elsewhere, change or clear them in the app.
- Turn off personalised matching: Settings → Personalised matching; you're then matched by the basic requirements only.
- Complain: write to [email protected], or to your data protection authority.
8. Age
Acquainted is for people 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information about anyone younger.
9. How we protect it
Encryption in transit; sign-in codes and session tokens stored only as hashes; provider tokens we must read back stored encrypted; every change our staff make, and every time they open someone's details, logged; contact details and suspicious text filtered before people meet, against scams.
10. Changes
When this policy changes in a way that matters, we tell you in the app and ask again where needed.
